( v e r s e ) a delicate agreement

a delicate agreement.
There has always been an agreement. For the sake of the sometimes neurotic, wary human world, this agreement exists to fulfil a very specific purpose; this purpose is to keep balance between the normal and the (supposedly) abnormal, the natural and the supernatural, the reality and the fairytale. Considering the very significance of this agreement, it is also incredibly simple:

"Neither realm, under any circumstances,
will interfere with or obstruct the other
"

Not exactly rocket science, is it? For the most part, neither the magic realm nor the human realm need anything from each other. They are simple two parallel spaces that exist side by side, inhabiting the same world but on entirely different planes. Over the years, however, curiosity has spiked. There were always those who disregarded the agreement, hopping back and forth between the magic and the human through the little pathways between realms. If you know where they are, and if you just believe, it's nothing more than a step through a slightly chilly white space, and there you are. Another dimension, impossibly different from your own yet still so strangely similar. There has never been any formal means to control who goes where, but the number of humans who go to the magic realm is drastically lower than the number of magic beings travelling to the human realm, largely because the human world is mostly very much oblivious to the existence of a neighbouring dimension that sometimes is less than a breath away, whereas the magic realm is very much aware of the humans. Magic beings, on average, are simply more adaptable and relaxed than humans, far more peaceable and unconcerned with their proximity to this other world.

But the peace between the magic and the human realms is being threatened, and the agreement has been put under terrible pressure. A war is brewing in the kingdom of Iaves, where a warlock’s curse has spread destruction and sickness throughout the land. Fear is rife amongst the kingdom’s people; the great oracle has spoken, and the only way that the curse will be defeated once and for all is through the combined powers of the princely twins… but there is only one prince in the kingdom. The curse continues to spread, its effects present even in the underwater kingdom of Vessia, while banished warlocks and their demonic followers are starting to break the terms of their sentences, remerging in their former kingdoms to wreak havoc. The Iavian Kingdom is urging others to join forces and battle this growing menace, and to help them search for the cure to the curse before it is too late, but the magic realm is too used to peace. Other kingdoms are waiting for everything to pass on its own, but even they are starting to feel the panic set in.

Little does the magic realm know that the curse is seeping out into the human realm as well. Strange illnesses have been sweeping North America, deadly and seemingly incurable, while the Atlantic Ocean has started to claim an alarming number of ships and travels in the wake of sudden, tempestuous weather. Humans are starting to notice. Some are desperate for answers and determined to find them, and it’s only a matter of time before the worlds collide.
